"Church Family" By Diane Webb
James 5: 14—"Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord."
It is important to be a member of a congregation of true believers. The church family plays a vital role in the spiritual growth of its members. In time of need (physical or spiritual), the more mature members of the church can pray for you and their prayers are more powerful because of their maturity in their relationship with God. Holy oil is used to call upon the Holy Spirit for healing and protection. It was used in the early church and it is used now in many churches. Miracles still occur and prayer plays an important role in the manifestation of miracles. Hands-on prayer by others increases the power of the Holy Spirit. The more people praying in accord the more powerful the prayer. This is one of the reasons being in a good church is so important. You praying by yourself is equal to one prayer. The prayer of two people in accord is equal to 10,000 prayers. Now, imagine an entire congregation praying for you! God does answer prayers. He heals people. He performs miracles. Healing is accomplished through the prayers of others. Hands-on prayer with anointing oil increases the healing power. Never be shy about asking others to pray for you.
Dear Heavenly Father, I pray all my prayers will be guided by the Holy Spirit. Help me recognize the need to ask others for prayer. Thank you for the wonderful church family you have given me. I pray for the Church which is the body of Christ. Help us all unite in one accord so our prayers can make a difference in this world we live in. I ask this in Jesus' name, Amen.
